The MWWG manages two funding programs aimed to provide financial support to public or private landholders interested in managing and/or rehabilitating natural wetland ecosystems in the Murray and Lower Murray-Darling catchments in NSW.

- The Wetland Incentive Scheme (for projects costing less than $10,000); and
- The Wetland Rehabilitation and Investigations Program (for projects costing more than $10,000).
The MWWG funding programs were initiated in March 2004 as a means for using funds from trading of Adaptive Environmental Water to improve environmental flow management and wetland management.
To date (June 2007) the funding programs have supported 94 community projects worth $973,518.
The two funding programs are scheduled to run until December 2008.

Wetland Incentive Scheme (for projects costing less than $10,000):
This is a small grants program, i.e. less than $10,000, aimed to encourage and provide assistance to individual landholders or community groups interested in managing and/or rehabilitating natural wetlands. The scheme provides financial assistance for on-ground works such as fencing, revegetation or minor earth works, small studies aimed at improving and/or rehabilitating the ecological functioning of natural wetlands, or small education/awareness activities for wetlands within the Murray and Lower Murray-Darling catchments in NSW.
The Wetland Incentive Scheme is designed to:
- manage and/or rehabilitate natural wetland ecosystems;
- promote integration between farm management and wetland conservation;
- provide demonstration sites;
- establish support networks for participating landholders and/or community groups; and
- support small wetland education/awareness activities.
Landholders/groups are expected to provide an equal share of in-kind, materials and/or cash contributions to the project.
Applications for the Wetland Incentive Scheme can be submitted all year round, at any time until December 2008.

Natural Wetland Rehabilitation and Investigations Program (for projects costing more than $10,000):
This program is intended for projects costing more than $10,000. Projects can be on-ground works; investigations and/or scoping studies aimed at improving management, understanding and/or the rehabilitation of natural wetlands within the Murray and Lower Murray-Darling catchment areas in NSW.
The Wetland Rehabilitation and Investigations Program aims to:
- manage and/or rehabilitate natural wetland ecosystems;
- promote and increase awareness of wetland ecosystems within the wider community;
- promote integration between public/private land management and wetland conservation;
- provide educational demonstration sites; and
- improve current understanding of wetland functioning and management.
Applications for the Rehabilitation and Investigations Program can be submitted all year round, at any time until December 2008.
